Those Elusive Ideas

The past few nights I've had dreams that I actually woke up remembering. For a few seconds. I know; this isn't a strange concept for most. But for me, it is. I typically do not recall my dreams.

The annoying part is that I leap out of bed practically shouting, "Eureka! That's a perfect book!" By the time I get something to write it down on, the entire thing is gone. Why must the muse tease me this way?

I have tried the notebook by the bed with a pen. I wake up and the pen isn't there anymore. One of my two cats managed to drag it away at some point in the night.

So, here is a question for anyone reading this: Do you have any tricks you do to remember what you dream?

I can't help but find it amusing that those dreams and thoughts you wish would go away never do, yet the ones you want the most seem to vanish in literally the blink of an eye.

Have a great day everyone!

Just passing through and thought I'd comment...I always remember my dreams but I'm not sure if there is a trick to it. I think having a great memory in general is what helps me out the most. Writing them down real fast doesn't always work because it takes too much time and you forget the little details. Maybe just try reliving what you liked most about it in your mind a couple times to help keep the memories before you write it all down. Or, you could try writing down major keywords that will trigger the smaller details once you want to write more in depth...Good luck!

I rarely remember my dreams, and if I do - they never seem to make much sense the next day!

Sometimes I remember my dreams, and sometimes not. I keep a notebook, multiple pens and pencils, and a flashlight in a box next on the nightstand. It's harder for the cats to get at the pens that way.

I haven't quite figured out how to recall some of those fantastic dreams. But I do tend to beg my mind to recall bits and pieces, especially if they have anything to do with my current wip.
